One of our recently completed renovations of the service bay at Burlington Subaru. This two phase project consisted of renovating 10,00SF of existing conditions and recon bay buildings.

This was a complete renovation of the old Blodgett Oven manufacturing plant in Burlington Vermont. The scope was expansive and focused on sustainability which included a 33,000 SF roof top PV system, 3 Geo-Thermal wells, 2 new ERVs, 88 heat pumps, energy effect lighting fixtures, and a tight building envelope that achieved 62% lower/better than the specified maximum air-leakage!

To help accommodate a growing need at the Brattleboro Retreat, HPC converted the first floor of one of their existing buildings into a patient care facility. About 2/3 of the existing first floor received an intense upgrade.

New Construction of 76 units of housing in on 4 story, wood framed structure over a concrete and steel open parking garage. This new construction project was approx. 110,000 sf panelized construction was completed in 14 months.

New 8,700 SF, single story, wood framed, slab on grade medical office building in Charlestown, NH. Close attention to detail and the envelope produced a very tight building and a great end product.

Charlestown: Health Center

Scope of work included improvements to 148 units of occupied apartments, including window replacement, heating upgrades, minor interior renovations and extensive site improvements.

RRMC’s Meditation Room offers patients, family members and visitors a peaceful refuge for individual prayer, meditation or communal worship.

Exam rooms and equipment for eye exam specialists were installed along with design/build mechanical and electrical systems with highly efficient systems and a high performance envelope.

RRMC: Ophthalmology Suite Renovations

The opening of the Proctor Dining Commons (18,000 SF) more than doubled the size of the kitchen, service area, and dining area available to the Proctor community. Work included the installation of state of the art electric appliances and a stone pizza oven. It’s an open, airy space that provides beautiful views over Carr Field and the Proctor ski area.

The facility (1,580 SF) combines glazing systems and is complemented with an insulated metal panel skin. The project also enabled Copley to improve the image of their service entry and insulate the south side of the health center building’s perimeter.

Copley Hospital: Utility Plant Expansion

This multi-phased project included temporary services to maintain operations during construction. Highly efficient mechanical and electrical systems were installed.

RRMC: East Dorset MOB

This project included extensive building envelope improvements of 24 units, new windows, doors, energy efficiency upgrades, heating system upgrade, roof replacement, new carport, paving and drainage along with site work improvements.

Briars Apartments

New construction of a 6,500 SF community center, which consists of offices, stage, theater hall, commercial kitchen and library. The owner supplied lumber harvested from their land for all siding and interior trims. Design/build MEP.

Heartbeet Lifesharing Community Center

For over 30 years HP Cummings has worked on many improvements to the Woodstock Inn. We were selected for this very exciting project, which included exterior improvements, lobby and library renovations. Design/build MEP. The Inn now has a truly grand entrance and is one of the most picturesque inns in New England.

This phased project consisted of three additions, approximately 5,200 SF, and interior renovations of approximately 7,000 SF while the building remained operational. Work included a new service drive, waiting area, service department, exterior improvements and showroom renovations.

St. Johnsbury Buick GMC Renovations

The center operated by MaineGeneral Health has no patient beds. It is designed to deliver outpatient treatment five days a week in a comfortable, holistic environment. It was completed in 18 months (3 months ahead of schedule). This project received LEED Silver certification.

MaineGeneral Health: Center for Health

Work included creating a 70,000 SF multi-purpose building with classroom, office, meeting and events spaces, cafe, kitchen, and interior and exterior dining spaces. Heating and cooling is primarily provided by the campus’ geothermal system. This project followed Green Globe Guidelines and is Green Globes certified.

Champlain College: Communications & Creative Media Center

This 39,368 SF project involved a significant amount of open office space and a connecting link to a twin office building (behind, not shown) built by HP Cummings in 1992. Our work included geotherm mechanical design. Substantially completed within 11 months.

Vermont Information Processing: Office Addition

The scope of work included interior renovations, all finishes and cabinet work. Exterior envelope improvements include zip wall, increasing R value, new windows and new roofing; total of 24 units plus community space.

Kelley’s Field Apartments

The complex is designed to accommodate an additional 20 assisted care beds in the future with support systems for same. Work included the installation of well appointed finishes.

Gifford Medical Center: Menig Nursing Home

This community health center replaced a former residence that was being used as a clinic. The project consisted of a 6,500 SF building footprint with a full basement.

Shorewell Community Medical Center

Work included 16 units plus community space. The renovated structure features upgraded insulation in the wall, attic and slab edge as well as a new primary mechanical system using air source heat pumps.

Richmond Terrace: Senior Living Renovations

This five-phased project involved an addition (2,450 SF) and renovations (7,300 SF) to a fully operational Emergency Department along with the construction of a new entrance canopy.

Brattleboro Memorial Hospital: ED Addition & Renovations

The 4,950 SF new library includes meeting/quiet space, children’s area, teens and multi-purpose space with multi-media technology for long distance learning, in addition to areas for circulation desk, stacks and support space.

Bethlehem Public Library

Work included energy improvements, re-insulating of exterior envelope and new windows; 33 units plus meeting and community space; historic restoration included maintaining the exterior facade and preserving interior details.

Notre Dame: Senior Living Renovations

This project consisted of renovations to 25 units. Work included energy efficiency upgrades and the installation of a new elevator. All work was accomplished while the building remained occupied. Work included preserving historic details.

Lamoille View Apartments

This project involved a small addition and renovations to 10,106 SF of dining space. Work, which was completed during summer recess, was performed while the space remained partially occupied.

Castleton State College: Dining Hall Renovations

Addition and renovations (5,900 SF), including the construction of a new stone terrace, first floor meeting and living space with residence space above. This project received LEED Platinum certification.

Middlebury College: Presidents House

Renovations (32,000 SF) to the existing SUSS manufacturing facility. The GMCR R&D departments were consolidated into one location. The project also included 5,000 SF of new mezzanine with large dormers providing natural light. This is a LEED Certified project with laboratory, cafeteria and office space.

Keurig: Research & Development Facility

Renovations to Brattleboro Retreat. Construction was designed to address high use clientele while still maintaining a pleasant environment.

We were pleased to be selected for this very exciting project. This is a new 94,000 SF correctional facility, which replaced an outdated facility (constructed late 1800’s). We were involved with preconstruction services for two and a half years prior to construction.

Woodsville Opera Block

Renovations to an occupied facility, including 19 units and community area. The needs were numerous, including the replacement of a 30-year old underground storage tank, erosion in the parking area, deteriorated porches, paint failure and aging windows and doors.

Lisbon Inn: Housing Renovations

Renovations to an occupied facility, including 35 units, and the community area. The thermal envelope of the building was improved, an underground storage tank was removed, and all apartments were completely renovated.

McKee Inn: Housing Renovations

Renovations to the Fellows Gear Shaper Building to accommodate medical offices and exam rooms for Springfield Hospital. The project involved coordinating work with the site developer, historical goals and site contaminations.

Copley Hospital: Emergency Department Renovations

Work involved storm water retention and a two story addition to provide space for Radiology and IT Departments. The new addition was followed by multi-phased interior renovations including space for Day Surgery. Scope included 19,551 SF ( new) and 15,596 SF (alterations).

NVRH: Addition & Alterations

This project involved a new addition totaling 10,212 SF plus 3,000 SF of interior alterations. The Spa is elegant but understated - “a celebration of light, nature and harmony” - according to a spokesperson for the Woodstock Inn. It combines simple, green design concepts with state of the art facilities, including a full-service salon, 10 treatment rooms, an outdoor hot soaking pool, a Scandinavian-style sauna, fire pit and meditation tree.

Woodstock Inn: Spa

The existing central heating plant (#6 fuel oil) was replaced as the primary heating system for the campus by a biomass plant. The project included $1.3 million in Chiptec biomass 400hp boiler equipment and a 150kw steam turbine.

Green Mountain College: Biomass Plant

This Net Zero project received LEED Platinum certification and the AIA Vermont Citation for Excellence in Architecture. Maclay Architects received the Zero Net Energy Award at the Northeast Sustainable Energy Conference.

Bosarge Education Center

This project involved energy savings upgrades, including new windows and general upgrades, such as new kitchens, heating zone upgrades, circulation space improvements and new photovoltaics.

Cathedral Square: Housing Renovations

The Academic and Student Activity Center, 30,985 SF, is home to Lyndon’s Atmospheric Sciences, Business Administration and Exercise Science programs. The project received LEED Gold certification.

Lyndon State College: Academic & Activities Center

This new primary care building (33,000 sf) is the first in Vermont to be built around the concept of a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH). This new free-standing facility was built on property adjacent to North Country Hospital.

North County Hospital: Primary Care Building

Manufacturing and administrative space addition (31,474 SF). All aspects of the construction were given extensive review to achieve very high energy conservation. Examples - solar trackers, roof mounted photovoltaic systems, geothermal wells and a well sealed envelope. Water quality and water savings are achieved through dual-flush toilets, ground source cooling and effective storm water management.

Wind NRG Systems: Addition

Three story outpatient building addition (36,000 SF). Work included the installation of a smooth insulated metal panel system and drive-through canopy at the first floor level, radiology and fit-up for future MRI.

BMH: Richards Building Addition & Renovations

Visitors/education center in existing national park. The owner arranged for all trees for dimensional and finish material lumber to be cut and rough sawn on site. Solar panels and biomass boilers were installed. Received LEED Platinum certification.

Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Park: Forest Center

The center operated by MaineGeneral Health has no patient beds. It is designed to deliver outpatient treatment five days a week in a comfortable, holistic environment. This project received LEED Silver certification.

MaineGeneral Health: Center for Cancer Care

Nursing home addition—approx. 25,900 sf. Cottage construction—approximately 95,700 sf. Renovations to existing multi-purpose spaces— approximately 6,120 sf. This project included owner customizations and adding back cost reduction value engineering.

Wake Robin: Addition & Cottage Construction

This project primarily involved an addition to provide space for food service, lounge and physical fitness, around 14,000 SF. It was awarded LEED “Gold” certification. Efficiency Vermont Better Buildings by Design selected this project for “First Place” under its renovation and retrofit category.

Vermont Technical College: New Campus Center

The program included a colloquium (multi-use space for classes, lectures and meetings) a studio, flexible space for teaching, seminars and work space, faculty offices, administrative space and a lobby/lounge.

Franklin Environmental Center

The hall is a warm, inviting space with natural light and birch woodwork. The original building was constructed by H.P. Cummings in 1927.

Bowdoin College: Recital Hall & Auditorium

This project involved the interior renovation of 133 State Street, a 100,000 SF building that is on the State Register of Historic Places and is adjacent to the Vermont State House. Renovations included new mechanical and electrical systems and the restoration of historic spaces, which included a two-story state meeting room, auditorium and public lobbies and corridors.

ECHO is the first building in the State of Vermont to be LEED certified and is the recipient of the AIA Award of Excellence and the Hertzel Pasackow Award for Extraordinary Architectural Integrity.

ECHO Leahy Center for Lake Champlain

We provided pre-construction as well as construction services, restoring and renovating the old Spaulding School which was converted into the History Center. Project involved a total area in excess of 60,000 SF, of which 40,000 SF were heavily renovated.

Vermont History Center

The New Classroom Building won the Vermont Governor’s Award for Excellence in Pollution Prevention along with other awards, including the Green Building Award for Exceptional Leadership & Design by Boston Society of Architects.

Vermont Law School: Oakes Hall Renovations

Work included removal of all interior floor framing and renovation (60,000 SF) to the historical Old Mill Building, along with constructing a six story connector and complete removal of the interior walls and floors

UVM: Arts & Sciences Complex

This new facility included over 14,364 SF of office and computer space. Construction included a large boardroom.

Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank: Operations Center

Phase I involved major additions and renovations to the Inn’s dining and conference facilities. Our work included the Oak Room, which is an example of high-end mill work. Phase II for Woodstock involved the addition of the new guest wing around 30,000 SF, the lowest level is a parking garage.

Woodstock Inn: Expansion

Project involved a major addition to the Pavilion, along with renovations and a three story connector to the Supreme Court Building at the Capitol complex in Montpelier which involved a tight urban site with constraints. Our work included renovations to the Supreme Court, including the introduction of a sprinkler system within historically sensitive spaces.
