This project is operated by MaineGeneral Medical Center, and it is designed to deliver outpatient treatment five days a week in a comfortable, holistic environment. It was completed in 18 months (3 months ahead of schedule). The cancer center now provides comprehensive services like radiation therapy, medical oncology, imaging, and a multidisciplinary care unit.
This project received LEED Silver certification and was awarded Best Healthcare Design by the International Interior Design Association.
Harold Alfond marveled at what his money had brought into the new center that bears his name.
“It is gorgeous,” he said during an interview at his Belgrade home. “I never believed it could be done that well so fast. I never in all my manufacturing life—which was a long time—never saw something go up so easy. Those workers, those contractors, they’ve done a fabulous job.”
