The Laurentide Apartments Achieves Two Energy Awards

In 2018, H.P. Cummings started construction on The Laurentide Apartments alongside Champlain Housing Trust, Evernorth, Duncan Wisnieski Architecture, and our Subcontractors. The Laurentide Apartments was completed in 14 months and was fully occupied by the end of 2019. The U.S. Department of Energy announced in March 2023 that the building had achieved The Novel 40 Award and the Energy Equity Award. Our diligence in creating an air-tight building envelope earned us both of these awards, and we are proud that we have a great team that helped meet those goals.

The Novel 40 Award recognizes new buildings that demonstrate building envelope performance improvement of 40% over code due to the incorporation of emerging high-performance envelope technologies. In aggregate, the improvement in building envelope performance for the Laurentide Apartments project was over 50%, earning the team a Novel 40 award.

The Energy Equity Award recognizes the community served, including providing housing opportunities for lower-income earners and those coming out of homelessness.

    L.L. Bean Opening

On Friday, June 10, 2022, the L.L. Bean store at Finney Crossing in Williston, Vermont, Celebrated its grand opening. This project was completed ten months after we broke ground on August 4, 2021. This was a huge announcement for the company and Finney Crossing, as the company had initially opened in Burlington, Vermont, at City Place but chose to move locations due to space issues. We are proud to be part of this project and excited to see what this opportunity will lead to!

Red Clover Commons II – Blower Door Test

Our Red Clover project rocked the blower door test. The project goal number was 1300 cfm50 to achieve 0.05 cfm50 per square foot. The goal number for the Efficiency Vermont program was 2500 cfm50. Final number was 1000 cfm50.
(For some additional context, 1000 CFM puts the building at about 0.038 CFM50/SF compared to the target of 0.05. US Passive House is 0.06 CFM50/SF so this building is about 40% tighter than Passive House standards.)
Congrats to Matt Nutting and his team for the great job on this building shell!

40 Years of Hard Work and Dedication

April 28th, 1980 was the first day of work for Mike Hulbert here at H.P. Cummings Construction Company. It is hard to believe it but that was 40 years ago! Mike has spent his entire 40 year working career with H.P. Cummings, starting as a Field Engineer on the George D. Aiken Center at the University of Vermont. Within this 40-year span Mike has gone from a young man straight out of Norwich University working in the field on construction projects to becoming an owner of that same company!
