The Gary Residence in Montpelier, originally offering 13-suite residential care units, was successfully expanded to include a dedicated memory care facility. The project involved the construction of a 12,000-square-foot, single-story addition, accommodating 15 memory care beds along with shared kitchen, dining, living, and activity areas and a three-story stair tower.
During the addition project, we faced the unforeseen challenge of a catastrophic flood that impacted the existing building. In response, our contract was expanded to include post-flood renovations of the original structure, addressing the damage caused by floodwaters. Despite these challenges, we successfully integrated the new addition with the existing structure.
The project posed significant challenges due to the confined site, which had limited laydown areas and contractor parking space. We managed these constraints by utilizing offsite locations for contractor parking and storage. Completing this expansion, alongside the flood-related renovations, enhanced the quality of care offered at the facility while overcoming the logistical complexities of working on an active residential care site.
