This project was phased to allow the owner to maintain building functionality throughout the construction process. In the first phase, upgrades were made to the gymnasium, encompassing an area of 15,000 square feet, which had previously reclaimed wood flooring from another gym. Removal of the existing weight and exercise room and the reclaimed wood floor was replaced with new, clear-finished Maple wood floor, accompanied by the addition of a synthetic turf strip, new ceiling fans, basketball hoops, a speaker system, and fresh paint for the ceiling and walls. Additional enhancements included padding and the installation of a unique aluminum banner for imagery.
The second phase focused on the eastern 5,370 square foot section of the building and entailed a complete gutting of the old kitchen, conference, and locker spaces to create a new weight and exercise room, trainer room, and office space. A new catwalk, storage area, data room, and mechanical space were constructed on the second level, adding another 5,290 square feet of functional space that has previously been used for storage and mechanical systems.
The third phase concentrated on the southern end of the building involving removal of the existing dining space, offices, mechanical components, the remaining kitchen area, and a small addition on the southern side of the main building. Structural enhancements were added to create three floors within the expansive open space, resulting in 18,300 square feet of usable area. The first floor accommodated new locker rooms, the athletic director’s office space, a spacious lobby and lounge area plus bathrooms. The second floor provided four large classrooms and flexible locker room space. The third floor offered two additional classrooms, offices, storage, and a generously-sized wellness studio or classroom area. This phase also included significant site improvements on the eastern and southern sides of the building. Notably, a walkway and patio space was created using heavy-duty pavers, surrounded by fresh landscaping and lawn. In-ground concrete footings with anchors for event tents were also installed.
